I need to start this off by saying that I am aggressively trying to save my money. I have a full-time job in retail and it is not at all high-paying. HOWEVER, I am learning a lot and there’s a lot to be said for that. Money aside.
But, this is a post about buying things which obviously takes money-making into account. So, let’s talk.
I hate my wardrobe right now. It makes me unhappy. This is so materialistic of me to say, I guess. But, it’s the truth. When you don’t want to put on anything in your closet, how are you starting your day? Not well. Ha. Sad, but true. So, I started slow and began to purge things out of my closet. I love purging! It’s so freeing. This started making me think that I actually do enjoy a minimalistic lifestyle. Not being encumbered by tons of thiiiiings you forget you have or push to the back of your closet is so nice. I want to be surrounded by things that I l o v e.
Time to re-build my wardrobe, you guys. I threw out, donated, and sold clothes and now I’m at square one. Kind of. I mean I’d still like to get rid of things but then I’d be left with like three outfits tops. So, we’re holding off for now.
I made a pinterest board. It’s locked and only I can see it (not much to see yet), so I can scheme my way into a closet that I’m obsessed with. I’m a very visual person, so this helps me see what I’m buying all together and helps me plan outfits accordingly. I am starting with basics (i.e. jeans) and am going to go from there! On the horizon: bras, a pair of boots, some birks, and some basic tees.
It’ll be a process for sure. I am not made of money. I’m trying to avoid instant gratification shopping, which is so so hard. But I hope it’ll help me build a minimalist closet & lifestyle that I’m happy with.
January flew by. I always thought that January was the slowest month, but the past two years have changed my mind. The beginning of the year is for new things! Last year it was a new boy and this year it’s new goals. I have to say, this year is off to a way better start. I feel more myself than I have in a while and I feel inspired to try new things again. God is good, y’all.
We ventured out to the cool & hip Winter Street Studios at the beginning of the month for a Houston Press event called Artopia. It was a good time (#openbar). I made the dudefriend take an artsy photo of me. I also got my backdrop in the mail and played with it a bit. Came out well, guys! I love photography. Why have I note been doing it more often??? Oh, yea. Cause’ I have no time! But it’s okay. 🙂 Being busy is a blessing.
So, really, what I’m saying is life is pretty dope right now. ^^^^ Get it? Get it?
The beginning of this year has been a good one. And I don’t say this lightly. There are challenges in my life, and things that have gotten me down. BUT, and I say this with emphasis, it has started off really well. My mind is in it. Feeling whole and optimistic and (dare I say it) happy is everything. And to be honest, that’s where I’m at.
So, now let’s talk about challenges. I’ve decided 2016 is going to be a year of challenges. In January, I ran a half marathon. I somewhat half-assed this training-wise (but still succeeded in the end!) so I’m hoping to improve my mental dedication overall. Ha! I also purged my apartment and am pledging to keep it generally clean of junk for the year (or for life!). No more crap! Buying responsibly. We’ll see how this goes!
In February, I started nanowrimo with my friend Maggie! Generally National Novel Writing Month is in November, but since both of us were too busy (note: anxiety-driven), we pushed it back until Feb! She’s keeping me accountable for this seemingly impossible challenge. I am SO busy, guys. I love being busy, but it makes writing 1800 words a day PRETTY rough! Regardless, I’m going to push myself because writing a novel is on my bucket list. And so was running a half marathon. So, maybe this is the year of the bucket list!
I’ve got a lot up my sleeve this year. I hope a lot of it comes to fruition, but I think I’m off to a pretty great start. This blog post is also an FYI that I may not be around much in the month of February. There’s also valentines day and a wedding in the mix! Luckily, it’s a short month. 🙂
Wish me luck.
What are your 2016 challenges??
